Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1 (Review)

Last year, I was very disappointed when I saw Half Blood Prince. I left the theater crushed and hopeless as I knew the same director had signed on to do the final two. I felt let down. How could this man ruin the one movie I looked forward to all year. I thought he made some extremely poor choices. No funeral for Dumbledore? The director just didn’t think it fit in the movie. Really? Wow! I thought to myself, ” Who the hell is this guy?” I went home and googled him. The directors name was David Yates. As I perused his IMDB I noticed I had never seen one damn film on there. Wait, not so fast. He directed, The Order of the Phoenix. The Order Of The Phoenix wasn’t a bad film. It’s not one of my favorites but, it was pretty solid. How could he make Half Blood Prince one of the worse out of all the installments. How could he??? After I finished researching Mr. Yates, I decided to change my attitude. I decided to be positive and hope for the best for the last two films.

I have a friend that works at Warner Brothers that invited me to the screening of  The Deathly Hallows. I was as giddy as Charlie Sheen in a room full of coke and hookers. We got there early to make sure we had good seats. As I nestled in my chair and looked around and saw all the geeks surrounding me, I felt a sense of calm. I felt good about what I was about to see. And I was right! Yates had delivered. The opening seen set the tone for the whole movie. “These are Dark times”,Rufus Scrimgeour (Bill Nighy) says. I got chills. Okay, I didn’t get chills. But, I grinned a little. Deathly Hallows was great from start to finish.  The movie showed just how far the cast has come as actors. Hermione (Emma Watson) first scene when she says goodbye to her parents is very touching. The sinister meeting at Malfoy Manor where Lord Voldemort has now taken up residence was epic. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, so I will stop here.  Go see Deathly Hallows. The movie was worth the wait and it sets up for the last installment perfectly. I don’t give stars, I just give my 2 cents. And I put all my money on Deathly Hallows.
